The oldest Nordic hospital, going strong towards the future's challenges
Turku University Hospital wishes to serve all of its clients in the best
possible way, including immigrants and other foreigners. The Department of
Gynaecology is the first to participate in the migrant-friendly hospital
project because foreigners are such an important patient group at the
department.
Annually, 200-300 foreign women give birth at the Hospital. These women speak many different languages and represent many different cultures. There is already an English-language
preparation group for mothers, and the maternity ward is
well prepared to serve clients in many other languages. More than 3000 babies are
delivered annually. The Hospital also has excellent facilities to care
for premature babies in its modern neonatal intensive care unit.
